North Burnett couple announced as 2022 Scholarship beneficiaries
Joel and Emma Muirhead have been chosen by the Selection Panel as the recipients of the 2022 Lachlan Hughes Foundation Scholarship.
Joel and Emma run their own beef cattle enterprise, are passionate about regenerative agriculture, strive to be exceptional land managers, and are very community focused.
The Muirhead’s own ‘Twin Rivers’ near Mundubbera and ‘Telemark’ west of Eidsvold which they run with their four children, Madison, Greer, Edwin and Stirling, and their management team at Telemark.
Joel and Emma implement grazing and farming practices that place the health of their land front and centre and are passionate about land advancement and reinvigorating tired soils. They have seen great improvement in their soil health in recent years by using multi-species plantings through their native grasses.
A Nature Refuge was established at Telemark in 2007 by the family, and they open their properties for community field days and information days.
As the scholarship is ‘project based’, the Lachlan Hughes Foundation will assist Joel and Emma by funding and facilitating training and education in a broad range of regenerative agriculture techniques and practices, as well as providing specialist assistance and mentoring to help them address a major erosion issue they have on the Burnett River.
